Viking fans, with old man Brett returning, this instantly puts the Vikings back in Contention for the Lombardi Trophy. However, it is important to remember that this is a 40 year old Favre and not the 29 year old who led the Green Bay Packers to the Super Bowl back in the late 1990s. With that being said, one should also consider that Favre is coming off of ankle surgery after injuring it in the last game of the Vikings season last year. Favre returning to the Vikings has a wide spectrum of benefits for both club and player alike. Yet one cannot help but be cautious when backing the Vikings as Super Bowl Champions. Firstly, last season when part one of the Vikings and Favre experiment took place, both club and player experienced perhaps the best season each have had in the last decade. The fear going in to last season was that Favre a pass oriented quarterback would not use the Vikings ultimate weapon, Adrian Peterson. However, when all was said and done, Favre was able to utilize AP while maintaining his pass first mindset. The result was a birth in the NFC Championship game. Unfortunately, the Vikings were not able to get over the hump and defeat eventual Super Bowl Champions the New Orleans Saints. With Favre returning this year, they should be able to duplicate, if not do better than last season now that the comfort level has risen. Nonetheless, one cannot help but wonder how the Vikings will fare if Favre’s ankle does not hold up. |
