The Jack Adams Trophy is given to the coach deemed to have guided his team the best during the regular NHL matchups. It was named after legendary Detroit Red Wings coach and General Manager Jack Adams, and was first awarded at the end of the 1973 to 1974 NHL season. Since that time, 31 coaches have received the Jack Adams honour on 36 occasions. In years past many different coaches have been in consideration in any given year to determine the winner of the award. However this year one man stood out amongst the other 29 NHL coaches. That man was former Dallas Stars and current Phoenix Coyotes head Coach Dave Tippett. Tippett went into Phoenix this past season and simply went above and beyond what the Jack Adams award stands for. We believe after the turn around the Coyotes had due in large part to Tippett, the award should change names. Throughout the illustrious history of the Jack Adams award trophy, several coaches have won the award more than once. Jacque Demers the legendary Detroit Red Wings coach is the only winner to not only win the award on multiple occasions, but also in back to back years. Jacques Lemaire, Pat Quinn and Scotty Bowman are the only three coaches to win the award with three separate teams. Pat Burns won the award three times and is the only coach to ever do so. |
